RICH Productions Captures the Magic: The Royal Countess Zingara Launches ‘La Dolce Royal’ at Melrose Arch
The wait is finally over for Johannesburg’s theatre and culinary lovers. After a decade-long absence from the Highveld, the fabled The Royal Countess Zingara has officially made her grand return to Joburg, pitching her magnificent, mirrored Spiegeltent at the Melrose Arch Pavilion for the highly anticipated season of La Dolce Royal.
As a photography/videography production team, we had the absolute privilege of capturing this legendary transformation from the ground up. From the moment the very first structural beams were raised in April, to the explosive, star-studded opening night, our lenses were there to document every bit of the magic.

From Blueprint to Breath-Taking: The Build-Up Video
Building a royal enclosure of this magnitude in the heart of Melrose Arch is an act of theatre in its own right. Conceptualized by visionary designer Richard Griffin, the iconic Belgian Spiegeltent was transformed into a massive, ochre-hued pavilion that blends African kingdom grandeur with Byzantine and North African craftsmanship.

Once the doors opened, the energy inside the mirrored canopy was electric. Guests arrived in their finest bold and glamorous attire, greeted by the mysterious Timekeeper and the iconic Weeping Woman.

The lighting design by legends Mannie Manim and Joshua Cutts creates a constantly shifting, moody, and vibrant palette that bounces off hundreds of antique mirrors.
Every corner of the Spiegeltent offers a new texture, from rich velvet drapes to deep ochre tones and smoke-filled spotlights. It’s not just dinner and a show; it's a completely immersive, shared human experience that Joburg has desperately missed.
